Kerala Administrative Service Recruitment | KAS Exam Scheme & Selection Process

Kerala Administrative Service examination is the much-awaited degree level competitive examination to be conducted by Kerala Public Service Commission in the year 2018-19. The Kerala Civil Service executive special rules had been published by PARD of Kerala in December 2017.
Mode of recruitment
The scheme of examination shall be decided by government in consultation with the Kerala State Public Service Commission and shall be on the pattern, rigour and standard adopted by the Union Public Service Commission in the examination for recruitment to Civil Services conducted in the year prior to the year of conduct of the examination for recruitment to the Kerala Administrative Service.
Kerala Administrative Service Examination Scheme
The scheme of examination for KAS recruitment is discussed as follows. This scheme of examination is applicable for Stream 1, Stream 2 and Stream 3 of KAS Junior Time Scale category.
- There will be an objective type preliminary examination for the initial screening and selection of the candidates. The candidates who cleared the preliminary examination will qualify for the main examination. Proficiency in Malayalam will be an important criterion for the preliminary examination.
- After objective type preliminary examination, there will be an essay type main examination. The persons who get selected for the main examination will appear for a personality test or interview. Proficiency in Malayalam is once again important for KAS main examination.

Weightage for Prelims, Mains & Interview
The following details are according to the draft rules for KAS.

KAS preliminary examination will be an initial screening process for the main examination and the marks in the preliminary examination will not be counted for the final selection.
Kerala Administrative Service main examination and interview shall have weightages of 80% and 20% respectively for Stream 1 and Stream 2 Junior Time Scale category of KAS.
For transfer appointment of Stream 3 Junior Time Scale KAS category (Government employees holding 1st Gazetted post in Departments in Schedule 1 and equivalent post in common categories), 10% from the 20% marks set for interview as discussed above shall be assigned to the prior performance of the candidate in the 1st Gazetted post based on criteria to be laid down by the Kerala Public Service Commission from time to time including confidential records, awards, and distinctions received including good service entries, publications etc.

Final Rank List
On the basis of the performance in the KAS examination, separate rank lists shall be prepared for the 3 streams of Junior Time Scale category of KAS officers. The ratio of intake will be 1:1:1 from all the 3 categories. 1/3rd of total vacancy is shared among each stream of Junior Time Scale.
